How to Choose the Best Photography Package for Your Brand

You’re in the process of revamping your website and need professional photos (because let’s face it, you want to look snazzy so your audience will be impressed, and in turn, bring in more revenue).

You’ve scouted out various branding photographers in your area, but you haven’t really jumped the gun on any of them yet because you’re feeling overwhelmed with their package options and which one you should choose. Will the one-hour photo shoot be too short and not yield enough photos? The four-hour long package seems like it would be more than enough, but is it too much?

Having photos taken is certainly an important investment for your brand, but it doesn’t have to provoke stress for you. So I’m setting the record straight and showing you how to choose the best option and bang for your buck.

*Please note: the following options are typical packages that branding photographers offer (including myself) and are by no means, the case for every branding photographer.

Package One: The One-Hour Update Session: This package usually includes a one-hour long photo session, with anywhere from 5-20 professionally edited photographs.

I like to call this one the starter session! This option is great for you if you’re looking to update a few photos on your website, or you have a promotional email that you’d like to send out. Normally within an hour time frame, two outfit changes can be done and depending on where you are, in some cases, more than one location of your choice can be covered. This is great for you if you need a new portrait or are just starting out and want to introduce the world to your brand without breaking your bank account.

Package Two: The Two-Three Hour Branding Session: This package can include a two-three hour long photo session, with anywhere from 20-50 professionally edited photographs.

What a great way to invest in photography that will yield substantial results! This package is the one for you if you want a variety of photos to choose from while re-branding your website and social media. Within this time frame, you’re likely to not only have three-four outfit changes, but also travel to a couple locations of your choice AND capture many assets of your business beyond portraits of yourself. I like to tell clients that this package is the transition from just portraits & branding to lifestyle & branding. This option is also great for people who need photos for a blog post or product promotion.

Package Three: The Four+ Hour Total Revamp: This package can include a four-hour or longer photo session, with 50+ professionally edited photographs.

Want a complete brand overhaul? This is your package! The investment for this one is usually larger, but don’t let that intimidate you. If you want to build cohesiveness and market throughout all facets of your brand, this is your best bet. You’ll get a variety of photographs of you + your brand in action, which is great for social media posts and prevents you from having to purchase those generic stock photos for your website.

I’m a visual person (duh), so I thought it might be helpful to give you a visual example! Lauren, a multimedia producer and writer, reached out to me because she was looking to update her website with a new portrait of herself. With that in mind, I suggested a one-hour photo shoot. This gave us enough time to get a variety of shots with two outfits and in two different locations (a few spots in the library and some outside in the downtown area). If you look at the photos below, it’s hard to believe that they were done in the same photo shoot! I purposely do this so that you have a variety of photos to choose from and look more versatile.

This package was perfect for Lauren because she wanted a couple portraits to choose from to put on her “About” page on her website. In addition to the one-hour branding photo shoot, her branding photography package included 15 professionally edited photos that she has access to through an online gallery. For my business, this package is called The Starter.
